Traffic Injury Rate measures the number of vehicle collisions in Edmonton that resulted in injuries per 1,000 population. Minor and major injuries, as well as fatalities, are included here. Collision and population data is provided by the Office of Traffic Safety.
In September, 2015 City Council approved the 2016-2020 Road Safety Strategy making Edmonton the first Canadian city to officially adopt Vision Zero - the long-term goal of zero fatalities and zero major injuries on Edmonton roads. The Road Safety Strategy was developed by the Office of Traffic Safety, with EPS acting as a major partner in delivering a comprehensive Safe Systems approach to save lives and eliminate injuries through the 5 E’s of traffic safety: Engineering, Education, Enforcement, Evaluation, and Engagement.
